Floral Preservation FAQs

  • We can take bookings for the current year as well as the following year. Currently, we are still accepting orders for 2023 as well as 2024. To reserve your spot, please submit the Inquiry Form. Booking in advance helps ensure that we have enough time, materials and space to handle any order that we’ve committed to. If you’re looking to have a last-minute order completed, we can take you as long as we have availability. Some months book up far in advance, especially months during peak wedding season, so it’s always best to book early. If we are fully booked and cannot accommodate you, we can send you detailed drying instructions for your flowers so that you can dry them until we have space to create your order.

  • All orders require a 50% non-refundable deposit to secure the booking. This is your deposit and it is non-refundable. All other payments are refundable.

The second payment is due two weeks after your event date. This payment is the remaining balance of your order (50%). So the further you book ahead, the longer you have between payments!

If you add on last-minute items before the second payment is made, the cost for the add-on items will be added to your second payment.

*If you decide to add last-minute items after you have paid in full (two payments), a third payment will be required for the balance of the add-on items before those items can be made.

  • Yes! If you’re looking to order an item that we don’t currently offer, please reach out to us! We are happy to discuss your ideas and work with you to bring your vision to life!

  • Yes! We can absolutely work with both of these. As long as air dried flowers don’t have alot of dust on them, and you still like the way they currently look, we can preserve them. The only flowers we cannot preserve are those which have mold on them or flowers which were dried in a freezer.

  • Yes! Many brides are from out-of-province and have to ship their flowers to us. Please refer to the Process & Expectations page to see the best way to package your flowers for shipping. If you have additional questions, please reach out to us by email. Detailed shipping instructions will be provided to you once you secure your booking and pay your deposit.

  • Fresh flowers need to be shipped 1-2 days after your event. Overnight shipping is preferred as the fresher the flowers, the better your preservation piece will turn out. For example, if your event is on Saturday, you’d want to ship your flowers out on Monday at the latest. If you send your flowers by ground shipping, there is a good chance they will wilt and/or turn brown and fall apart. Wilted flowers can sometimes be revived a bit to make them more perky, but nothing can be done to reverse flowers that have started to brown and some flowers are impossible to piece back together after they have fallen apart.

1-2 day shipping is not the cheapest option, but flower preservation is an investment. If you’re going to spend money to preserve your flowers, you want them to be preserved in their freshest and most beautiful state possible.

SK Designs is not responsible for replacing any damaged flowers, so it is your responsibility to send them as quickly as possible by following our detailed shipping instructions.

  • Not at all! Most clients prefer to send their fresh flowers to us and have us professionally dry them, but you’re more than welcome to dry them yourself. If you choose to dry them yourself, then we recommend using silica gel.

If we are fully booked during the time of your event, you are welcome to dry the flowers yourself so they they will be ready for preservation once we have availability for you.

Please note that it is your responsibility to ensure your flowers are fully dried before you send them to us. If pre-dried flowers arrive to SK Designs and they are not fully dried, SK Designs is not responsible to dry them once they are on site. We are only obligated to dry fresh flowers that were ordered and specified as fresh, not pre-dried.

  • SK Designs is not responsible for any damage caused during shipping from the client to the address of SK Designs. If the client is pre-drying their own flowers, it is the responsibility of the client to properly dry the flowers. SK Designs is not responsible for any wilting, rotting, or damage to the flowers if they are not dried properly. We do not fully remove flowers from their box until we are ready to design. Any wilting that occurs with pre-dried flowers (if not dried properly) while inside of their packaged box is not the responsibility of SK Designs.

SK Designs only takes responsibility for the flowers that we agree to dry on-site. If fresh flowers sent by the client are damaged during shipping, the client has the choice of either a refund (less deposit), or to have a florist of their choice recreate the bouquet and send back to SK Designs. The client is responsible for handling all logistics and costs with the florist if they are sending new flowers to SK Designs.

  • Some types of flowers take longer than others, so there isn’t a simple answer for this. Most often, your flowers will need to stay in the silica gel for at least 1-2 weeks. Flowers need to be completely dry because if there is any moisture in them at all when they are put into resin, they will rot. We check on your flowers regularly while they are in the silica gel to ensure they are fully dried before we start designing.

  • No. The casting resin that we use allows us to pour individual layers up to an inch thick. However, we still pour smaller amounts in multiple layers to ensure that the resin does not heat up too fast and scorch the flowers. Because of this, most items need us to pour anywhere from 4-8 layers, depending on how deep the item is that we’re making.

  • Our turnaround time is generally anywhere between 12-16 weeks and depends on a variety of factors, such as if your event date falls within peak wedding season (e.g., May to October); if you want us to dry your flowers on site; if you are ordering multiple items; and how many other orders we are working on at the same time.

We strive to complete your order as quickly as possible, but our main priority is making sure you absolutely love your finished piece, and this requires multiple steps which are equally important and which all take time. Please be patient with us while we are creating your order :)

  • It is important to have realistic expectations of the preservation process.

For more information, please read the Process & Expectations page.

  • SK Designs uses high quality casting resin meant for flower preservation. Our resin has UV-stabilizers which helps to prevent the resin from ambering (turning yellow) over time. However, floral preservation pieces that are kept in direct sunlight, or kept near a heat vent, can increase the likelihood that your piece will amber.

All resins will amber to some degree over time - please be aware of this. SK Designs guarantees that your piece will not amber within the first 3 months of receiving your order. After this time, we cannot guarantee your piece will not experience any ambering because there is no way for us to know how the piece is being taken care of by the client.

  • The 50% deposit you pay at the time of booking is always non-refundable, regardless of the circumstances. This is because you have reserved a spot with us, which means we’ve lost out on booking someone else in your place.

If you’ve already paid for your order in full and would like to cancel your order and receive a refund, you are eligible to receive a refund for the total amount you have paid less the 50% deposit. If we have already started pouring the resin for your pieces, then we are unable to provide a refund.

If something were to happen to your flowers at your event, or en route to us, or if your event was cancelled, you are eligible to receive a refund for any costs you have paid, less the 50% deposit. If something else happens, please reach out to us to discuss your options.

If your event gets postponed to another date, we can move your reservation and deposit forward to the new date, or you can choose to cancel at that time and receive a refund of any costs paid minus the 50% non-refundable deposit.
